Fun fact; mosquitoes are actually one of the few types of insects that ARE out to attack you; wasps and hornets, bees, water bugs, and ants only attack in defense. Fortunately, they are not usually painful unlike the former four. But horseflies? We don’t need to go there

This is one of my biggest nightmares, I'm insanely prone to mosquito bites my "record" so far has been 52 bites in one night when I was 16 years old so around 2 and a half years ago. And I sometimes get allergic reactions too they're so bad I hate mosquitos with all my More xD

As unusual as it sounds, I was always interested in how mosquitoes actually bit into flesh. I'm actually curious, though. Is it true that certain people (with a certain color of hair) have higher pheromones and are more attractive to mosquitoes or is that just hearsay ?

There is actually something I do to stop the itching of mosquito bites that I think you should test. I run it under really hot water. What it is supposed to do is actually denature the enzymes that are causing the itching (Deforming them) and causes the itching to stop almost immediately afterwards. I tend to go hot enough to where it is just under unbearable. I would love to see a video testing this out though to see if it's just me or not.

Something I do with mosquito bites since I'm actually allergic to them, and one bite looks like I got hit by a paintball. I use hot water, everyday when I shower if I have a bite is I take the shower head off and center it on the bite, and I slowly turn up the heat until it goes numb. This does two things, kind of fries the nerves in that area for a day and also, mosquitoes saliva is a protein, the heat breaks down the protein. Only works for about a day.

I’ll be honest, if I had to choose between sticking my arm into a mosquito box, or walk through a room filled with venomous snakes, I’d choose the snakes in a heartbeat. For whatever reason mosquito’s just seem to love my blood, and it’s always *so much fun* to see how long I can go during the summer without getting bitten. I’ve gotten full on scars a couple times because of how much I scratched them, and one time the *entire* top of my hand was swollen for nearly a week after one bite, even though I was good about not scratching that one. At least the snakes would be a new experience…

By the way, different species definitely give different histamine responses. German mosquitoes leave nothing on me not even an itch, where as New England mosquito bites last for well over a week on me. See my other comment for why that matters.
